Cardiac Catheterization in Pediatric Patients Supported by Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation: A 6-Year Experience. Cardiac catheterization in critically ill children after cardiac surgery is crucial for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes

ETHODS: This retrospective study included pediatric patients whounderwent cardiac catheterization while on ECMO after congenital heartsurgery between January 2017 and April 2023. RESULTS: During the study period,42 Children were placed on Cardiac ECMO with a mean age of 35 months (range 10 days to8 years). Indications for ECMO included Ventricular failure (n=3,33%), malignant arrhythmia(n=3,33%), low cardiac output syndrome (n=2,22%)and refractory hypoxia (n=1,11%).Total of 12 catheterizations were performed on 9 patients (7 diagnostic and5 interventional) on median post cannulation day5,2(range:2-11 days).  In 7 of 12 patients, catheterization confirmed suspectdiagnoses.  Mean duration of ECMO support was 10 +-6 days.. Overall,5 out of 9 patients (55%) were successfully weaned off ECMO and 4 survived to hospital discharge.
